In 1959 hegraduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering, National Cheng KungUniversity, Taiwan. In 1965, he obtained his master's degree from theDepartment of Chemical Engineering, Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey,U.S. In 1968 he received his doctor’s degree from the Department of ControlSystem Science and Engineering at University of Washington, Missouri, and hehas served as assistant professor, associate professor and professor in thedepartment since 1969. He has been a senior member of the American Institute ofElectrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) since 1985. He is a guest professorat many universities in Japan, Italy and the United Kingdom. He also serves ashonorary professor at University of Science and Technology of Chengdu, China.
